Type Specimen Poster: Chowder

Fall 2022
For this project, students were asked to select a typeface and a subject that reflect one another. I chose the typeface Rooney Sans alongside the animated series Chowder. Rooney Sans sits delicately between seriousness and playfulness, blending structured typography with a childlike sensibility. Its softly rounded letterforms create a sense of warmth and familiarity.

Chowder embodies this same spirit. The show introduces a cast of characters named after food, Chowder, Panini, Truffles, Shnitzel, each contributing to its whimsical, lighthearted world. Much like Rooney Sans, the characters and visual language of Chowder feel carefree, quirky, and inviting, making the pairing a natural reflection of shared tone and personality.
