What Does It All Mean?

Fall 2023

Exploring the poetic potential of ordinary things involves the juxtaposition of seemingly incompatible items to assert unlikely connections or perhaps no connection at all. This approach raises questions about the fragmentation of awareness and perspectives, advocating for an all-encompassing vision that transcends hierarchies and boundaries.

Drawing inspiration from Freud's theory of the unconscious, which contends that nothing is truly lost but merely unavailable, this creative exploration embraces the permeability of the boundary between fiction and fact. Freud's notion that "behind one object lies another" aligns with the belief that life is a veil, suggesting a profound interconnection between seemingly dissimilar elements.

Delving into the realm of unconscious influences, the exploration is driven by experiences that shape our physical world, guided by unconscious memories, thoughts, and urges. Operating outside conscious awareness, these unconscious processes display significant influence over thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, fostering an intuitive approach to navigating the complexities of existence.

Ultimately, this creative inquiry seeks to unveil the poetic potential contained within ordinary things, celebrating the richness that emerges when contrasting elements, moving in dream-like states, to eventually converge the boundaries between the known and unknown, fact and fiction.
